I realized that life would never be the same for my granddaughter Kayla and me. The moment she was born, I knew our bond would be special, but as I watched her grow, it became clear that our relationship would evolve in ways I could never have anticipated. Now, as I stand on the precipice of a significant change, I find myself reflecting deeply on the journey we've shared. Kayla, who had grown up overnight in what felt like just a blink of an eye, would soon be leaving for college, embarking on a new chapter filled with opportunities and challenges alike. It was a bittersweet realization that filled my heart with both pride and a tinge of sadness. There were so many little things I needed to ensure she knew before she stepped into this exciting new world. I wanted to impart not just practical advice, but also the wisdom gleaned from my own experiences, the lessons learned through both triumphs and hardships. I thought about the importance of staying true to oneself, the value of hard work, and the significance of kindness in a world that can often feel harsh and unyielding. Each piece of advice seemed more precious than the last, and I felt an urgency to convey them to her in a way that she could carry them with her. God said, "Write them down!" So, I did…

Meet my granddaughter...

As I wrote, I envisioned her reading these notes in her dorm room, perhaps during late-night study sessions or moments of uncertainty, drawing strength from the words I had carefully chosen. In this process, I found myself reminiscing about our shared moments—those simple afternoons spent on trips and adventures where we discussed everything under the sun. The laughter that filled our time together. Each memory served as a reminder of the foundation we had built together, one that I hoped would support her as she ventured into adulthood. As I filled the pages, I realized that this was not just a list of advice, but a legacy of love, a way to stay connected to her even when distances separated us. I wanted her to carry a piece of me with her, a reminder that no matter where life took her, she was never truly alone. This journey we were both on—her into the world and me into a new phase of life—was a testament to the cycles of growth and change that define our existence. And so, with each stroke of the pen, I felt a sense of peace, knowing that while life would indeed be different, it would also be filled with new adventures and endless possibilities for both of us.
